Dear Unifor Member,

We wanted to give you some information regarding changes to your Benefits. As you are aware, the Company is changing to the Bell Omniflex plan effective January 1, 2019. The current Blue Cross and Great West Life Benefit Plans for extended health and dental ceased to exist after December 31, 2018.

Some important things to remember during this transition are;

From January 1st until sometime later in January when the enrollment is complete (“the gap period”), if you go see the dentist or require any prescription medications or paramedical services, you will be required to pay 100% at that time and keep the receipt to be reimbursed at the new percentage formula in the Omniflex plan you choose once the new enrollment is active.

In addition, during this “gap period”, if you are travelling and require travel insurance in early January, here is the process,

 You will need to inform your Human Resources Coordinator that you are traveling for personal reason after January 1, 2019.
*The Human Resources Coordinator will have you complete a template (name, DOB, dependents, dependents DOB,  date of travel, location, etc.) and will provide you a benefits card (including phone number to contact in case of emergency) and a travel brochure.

Of course, Omniflex will only apply as of January 1, 2019.  As such, those who traveled before then will be covered under Manitoba Blue Cross (current Bell MTS plan) or an individual plan.

What about Life and Accident Insurance during this “gap period”?

Here is how the life insurance coverage will be handled in case of a death in the first few weeks of January 2019.

For an employee who enrolls
*The current MTS life insurance coverage will be honored if death occurs before the date the employees enrolls
*The Omniflex life insurance coverage will be payable if death occurs after the date the employee enrolls

For an employee who does not enroll
*The current MTS life insurance coverage will be honored if death occurs on or before January 25, 2019
*The Omniflex default life insurance coverage will be payable if death occurs after January 25, 2019
