Dear Unifor Bell members:

Last month, when Bell made the callous decision to cut 4,800 jobs – 9% of its workforce – affecting 800 of you, our members, we called them out.

The recent terminations are the latest move by Bell to eliminate our work, as the company continues to contract out, offshore work and erode jobs across Bell units. 

As one of the country’s oldest companies, Bell played a historic role in connecting Canadians with a trusted place in homes across Canada. They have broken that trust with the betrayal of their dedicated workers.

We warned them we were going to fight back. And we’re ready to bring it to them in full force.

Today, we launched our new campaign, appropriately called, Shame on Bell.

Sign the petition on the campaign website and tell the Bell Board executives how disgusted you are with them and spread the word on social media with these shareables.

We will have worker testimonials coming soon on the site.

On March 19 in Ottawa, Bell execs will be called before the House of Commons’ heritage committee to answer for the job cuts.

Unifor will be there.

We will be holding a media conference and then we will take our voices to the streets of our nation’s capital to show Bell, their execs, politicians and the public that the company cannot hide, duck and run for cover.

We invite Bell locals in Ontario and Quebec who are within driving distance to join us. More details will be provided in the coming days.

Aux membres d’Unifor travaillant chez Bell,

Le mois dernier, Bell a pris la décision insensible de supprimer 4 800 emplois, ce qui représente 9 % de ses effectifs, touchant ainsi 800 d’entre vous, nos membres. Nous avons dénoncé cette action.

Ces récents licenciements ne sont que le dernier épisode d’une série d’actions de Bell visant à éliminer nos emplois, alors que l’entreprise continue de sous-traiter, de délocaliser et d’éroder les emplois dans toutes les unités de Bell.

En tant qu’une des entreprises les plus anciennes au pays, Bell a joué un rôle historique en connectant les foyers canadiens à travers un service de confiance. Cependant, elle a rompu cette confiance en trahissant ses travailleuses et travailleurs dévoués.

Nous avons averti Bell que nous ne resterions pas sans réagir. Nous sommes désormais prêts à riposter vigoureusement.

C’est pourquoi nous lançons aujourd’hui notre nouvelle campagne intitulée “Honte à Bell”.

Nous vous encourageons à visiter le site web de la campagne et à signer la pétition pour exprimer votre dégout face aux décisions prises par le comité d’administration de Bell. Partagez également ce contenu sur les réseaux sociaux pour faire entendre votre voix.

Le 19 mars prochain, la direction de Bell sera convoquée devant le Comité permanent du patrimoine canadien de la Chambre des communes pour répondre de ces suppressions d’emplois.

Unifor sera présent.

Nous tiendrons une conférence de presse, suivie d’une manifestation dans les rues de la capitale nationale, pour montrer à Bell, à sa direction, aux politiciens et au public que l’entreprise ne peut pas échapper à ses responsabilités.

October 4 serves to commemorate the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirited persons (MMIWG2S), and to extend our heartfelt solidarity to their families.Today Unifor renews support for the families calling on the Government of Manitoba to prioritize the immediate search of the Winnipeg landfill for the bodies of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran.While the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls has laid out an extensive 231 Calls for Justice, it is crucial to emphasize the urgency of searching the Winnipeg landfill as a tangible and immediate action. This is a critical step in addressing the ongoing cycle of violence and systemic discrimination that has its roots in Canada’s colonial past and has been perpetuated by successive governments.The Inquiry’s final report serves as a guide for all Canadians to put an end to this violence. It is our collective responsibility to heed its recommendations and to act swiftly. Elected officials must recognize the gravity of the situation and waste no time implementing the recommendations.  Le 4 octobre est dédié à la commémoration des femmes, des filles et des personnes bispirituelles autochtones disparues et assassinées (FFPBADA) et à offrir notre sincère solidarité à leurs familles. Aujourd’hui, Unifor renouvelle son soutien aux familles des personnes disparues en demandant au gouvernement du Manitoba d’effectuer des recherches immédiates et prioritaires dans le site d’enfouissement de Winnipeg afin de retrouver si possible les corps de Morgan Harris et de Marcedes Myran.Alors que l’Enquête nationale sur les femmes et les filles autochtones disparues et assassinées a lancé 231 appels à la justice, il est crucial de souligner l’urgence d’effectuer des recherches dans le site d’enfouissement de Winnipeg, car cela représente une mesure tangible et immédiate. The Unifor Tears to Hope walk/run to support Missing and Murdered Indigenous women and girls and two-spirited relations is coming up soon!! We have a handful of participants so far but we can do better. Remember this is a National event happening simultaneously across Canada.

Your local’s help in this important Unifor project is greatly needed. Even if one person per Local in Winnipeg participated, that would help achieve our goal. This event is open to friends and family, allies, community groups and other unions. So bring along a friend! We also are expecting Unifor National president Lana Payne to participate in the Winnipeg event.

You can join an existing team or create your own. Registration is $50 per team, but Locals may donate as much as they like on behalf of their team.

We are holding the 5k/10k Walk/Run on:

11 a.m. CDT

Assiniboine Park, site 11 (just to the left of the ox cart statue at Shaftesbury entrance)

Registration information and other details are in the attached FAQ.

The walk will be a 5-km route along paved pathways adjacent to the Park, going into the Assiniboine Forest, looping around the Canadian Mennonite University and Tuxedo golf course and ending back at the starting point in the Park.

If you are unable to walk we are also looking for volunteers to help marshal participants around the course and hand out water etc. Please contact me directly if you would like to volunteer.
